Jesus, Prince of Light: The Story Behind the Painting
Jesus, Prince of Light was Inspired by the Holy Spirit
Jesus, Prince of Light, is stunningly luminescent and shines with the appearance of glowing light on a midnight sky.

I was inspired to do a work which would capture what I had seen while doing a job for a client in San Antonio, Texas. We were using a line camera to photograph sketches made by the Renaissance Masters. As the light beamed through the paintings, I realized this radiated light captured the very essence of our Lord Jesus Christ. My mind raced through the many scriptures which speak of Jesus as Light. (Casey McCulley)

McCulley was at possibly the lowest ebb in his life, when ten years later, he got around to painting Jesus, Prince of Light. The sale of his thriving art business in San Antonio, Texas, had failed to go through. He was living with friends and painted the starry scape in their attic with only a tiny, dim, bulb for illumination. The real illumination proceeded from the Holy Spirit and poured through Casey as he finished the painting in a matter of hours.

This was just the beginning. He named the painting The Spirit of Christmas and donated it to an agency to use for a charitable purpose. The charitable event fell through and in a miraculous turn of events, the painting was returned intact to McCulley.

Several years later, Casey felt God inspired him to name the painting Jesus, Prince of Light, a name McCulley would only truly understand when he began his in-depth study of the true meaning of the constellations.

What People See When They View Jesus, Prince of Light
Everyone who views Jesus, Prince of Light sees a different aspect that is poignant to the individual. Several people have noticed the nail prints in the hands out of which it appears worlds and universes are exploding. John says, " All things were made by him, without him was not anything made..."

Some are reminded of the resurrection, still others of the catching away of the Church as stated in 1 Thessalonians 4:7. One man pointed out how the light seems to be pouring down from the beard and over the garment. He said he was quickened by the similarity of the anointing of Aaron as the oil spilled over his beard and down his garment. Many others discovered hidden pictures that represent specific scriptures and well-known biblical stories. If you look, you will see angels, doves, a great whale, and even a David's harp. These hidden pictures were unintentional on Casey's part. We believe the Holy Spirit, the great Painter of the universe directed Casey.

More than all of the various interpretations of Jesus, this rendering captures the spiritual essence of Jesus, the Christ. It portrays him not as a man with a particular set of racial characteristics but as the overcoming Messiah whose very being radiates light.
