Ancient translations of Leo and the Stars that make up the constellation, speak of the coming Lion: the judge, rending, treading under foot, punishing, coming vehemently, leaping forth as a flame. This work depicts the powerful head of a lion with sad, piercing eyes. The lion beneath is bounding, ripping, and tearing. Jesus, the sacrificial lamb, will come on the Day of the Lord as a Lion. He who wooed in mercy will ultimately come in judgment.
